Beaches

Northwest Scotland is home to some of the most beautiful, unspoiled, beaches - many of which are on our doorstep at Meall Dubh!

Nearby

A few hundred metres walk down from the cottage is Raffin Beach, a secluded pebble beach, sometimes with a bit of sand. Orcas, dolphins, basking sharks, seals, as well as many seabirds and even otters can be spotted here. You can also take a short walk along the coast or road to the lovely, sandy Balchladich beach. On windier days we like to watch the gannets fishing, with their high speed dives into the sea.

Within a very short drive are several beautiful sandy beaches, including Achmelvich, a popular swimming spot with beautiful white sand and rockpools at low tide, and Clachtoll, with its interesting "split rock" and mainland Britain's best preserved broch.

Also within a short distance from the cottage are Stoer, Balchladich, Alltan na Bradhan, Culkein, and Clashnessie beaches. They are all quite different and interesting to explore - a beachcomber's paradise!

Slightly further afield...

A day out could take you further north to the white sand beaches of Oldshoremore, Durness, Sango Bay or even the world-famous Sandwood Bay with its wonderful dunes,. Some of the beaches have ranger huts with information about what you might expect to see in the vicinity.
